Prayer Gathering Planned for Fuller & Hayward

The Texas Tech Fellowship of Christian Athletes has announced plans for a prayer gathering on Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park on Monday at 6:00 pm to pray for healing for former Red Raider Cody Fuller and Texas Tech Baseball Special Assistant Ray Hayward.

Fuller, a former two-sport athlete at Texas Tech (baseball, football), has been battling advanced pancreatic cancer since a surprise diagnosis on March 9. Last week, the 2005 Male Student-Athlete of the Year’s treatment team believed they’d reached the end of medical interventions. Fuller left his treatment facility in Houston on Wednesday, April 27 to head back to his home in Bulverde, TX prepared to face his final days on palliative care.

A stream of friends and family came calling to say goodbye to Fuller, an immensely popular former student-athlete, businessman, and little league coach. However, he remained lucid and stable despite expectations that internal bleeding and sepsis would end his journey. On Saturday, after speaking with his oncologist, Fuller and his family headed back to Houston. Doctors believe they have identified what caused the false symptoms and he is currently back in hospital care and stable receiving nutrients in preparation for further cancer treatment.

Hayward underwent surgery for a heart valve on March 21 and continues to rehab from that surgery. He has faced multiple challenges along the way and will now be preparing for a heart transplant as his heart still requires machine assistance to function efficiently.
