About Us - Red Raider Dugout

THE DUGOUT

It is the place where our heroes have gathered for the game we love. Where photographers and television cameras have captured the moments of joy, hilarity, and heartbreak that have defined baseball for generations. For ballplayers of the youngest ages, the dugout is a place from which the mysticism and allure of the many days of baseball past still reside. Their wide-eyed wonder from that moment first stepping into the dugout and standing where legends have stood is never forgotten. They look out across the field surrounded by sunflower seeds and baseballs casually strewn across the floor, belying the triumphs and failures of the unforgiving sport whose memories they represent.

The jubilation of a dogpile celebration originates in the dugout, blasting forth with the force of a joyful West Texas wind following that final out. Conversely, the agony of defeat is lamented there as well. The angry aftermath of a strikeout or a bad jump stealing second plays out in the dugout, partially hidden from view behind a line of sympathetic teammates who know all too well the very same feeling. It is a place of camaraderie and personality, where the shenanigans of ballplayers of all ages grow in scope and creativity with the bodies and abilities of their perpetrators.

The dugout is the nerve center of the ballgame, from which the seasoned manager sends forth commands, signs, and signals to his batter or team in the field. Whether leaning against the wall, perched on a bucket, standing at the rail, or dominating the top step, the vision of a manager surveying the challenge before them is an enduring vision of baseball.
