George Watson has been a fixture in Lubbock-area athletics since 1997 when he joined the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal as a sports writer. During his tenure, George covered primarily high school football and basketball and Texas Tech Baseball. George was honored in 2007 with the Texas High School Coaches Association Putt Powell Sportswriter of the Year Award. He was promoted to Sports Editor of the Lubbock A-J in 2011 and in 2012 was named the Texas Girls Coaches Association Sportswriter of the Year as well.

George now works in Communications and Marketing for Texas Tech University telling the stories of Texas Tech, its strengths, and the people who make it a world-class university on the cutting edge of technology and research that affect all facets of daily life. George and his wife Andrea are dedicated Texas Tech Baseball fans and can be found with the Tech Hecklers at every game.
