Quick Hit | Fulford Added to Watch List

For the second consecutive season, Red Raider catcher Braxton Fulford has been added to the 2021 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award watch list.

Fulford, a native of Lubbock, is hitting .308 on the season with 3 homeruns, 3 doubles, nine RBI, and has gunned down three base stealers as well. It was in his 100th start behind the dish that he enjoyed the 2nd multi-homerun game of his Red Raider career last Saturday against Texas State in Houston. He was one of two Red Raiders named to the All-Tournament Team earlier this week.

In a defensive slugfest on Tuesday night against Gonzaga, Fulford was instrumental in a 1-2-5-4-6 double play to escape a jam, a tossback to the pitcher for an out at the plate, and received a gundown from Dylan Neuse in center field as well. Fulford has built a reputation as an extremely reliable backstop and his offensive production will pay dividends for the Red Raiders, and his national attention, in 2021.

Fulford is one of 69 catchers on the list, which will be trimmed down to semifinalists on May 20, 2021.
